Polar Bears ~ Kate Shutt

Polar bears, fluffy and sweet,
Love to have lots to eat,
They will float around on a big ice floe,
Or rather play in the thick white snow.

Their beautiful coats are dazzling white
They gleam in the bright sun, oh what a sight!
They have great white teeth and huge sharp claws,
But the polar bear cubs only have little paws!

They live in the Arctic, that is freezing cold,
But polar bears are big, brave and bold.
Their big, thick coats will keep them warm,
When the temperature drops and there is a great storm!

But I’m sure that this won’t be at all surprising,
The number of polar bears is dropping not rising

So just remember and please be aware
That nothing can replace the polar bear!

A Houseful of Pets ~ Athena Purves-Fennell

Lucky is my dog’s name,
Chasing water is his game.
Whenever my mum gets the hose,
He’s always there with his nose!
Every morning he moans to mum,
Mummy why are you looking so glum?
He always cheers mum up and makes her laugh,
So she gives him a treat,
But only half!

Lucky has got a little friend called Jazz
He’s a little ball of fun and never looks glum.
When the early sunshine glows
He’s often found nibbling at my mum’s toes
We never know where he’s at,
Did you know he’s our family cat!

We have lots of pets in our house
We even have a little white mouse.
His name is Bubble
And he never gets into trouble
He only comes out at night
So the cat doesn’t give him a fright.
He has the teeniest,
tiniest toes,
And if you ask him, he’ll lick you on the nose.

This is only the beginning,
I’ll write you some more
Of all the pets in my house that I adore!
