New!

Guinea pigs may seem easy to look after, but do you know about the five welfare needs to keep them healthy and happy?

Pet care tips for guinea pigs

I like to live with other guinea pigs, either of the same sex or neutered so we don’t have babies!

It is better that I don’t live with rabbits, we need different foods and could catch diseases from each other.

I like special guinea pig food mix, hay and small pieces of vegetables and fruit.

I need a safe run to exercise in.

My teeth grow all the time, so I need hard food chew to wear them down.

Let me get used to being handled by doing it gently and safely.

I make a lot of noises - when I’m happy I purr and shudder!

Check that my hutch is secure as I am frightened of foxes and other animals that may harm me.

Make sure you remove any old food from my hutch each day as well as dirty bedding.

Check me over regularly and if you are worried about me, ask an adult to take me to the vet.
