Golden Hamsters

Picture of a golden hamster

I like to live alone.

I can be noisy at night, which might disturb you. I can be grumpy, as well, if you wake me up when I’m asleep!

I like to eat special hamster food, a mix of seeds and nuts.

Give me a small amount of fruit instead of sticky treats which make me fat, rot my teeth and get stuck in my cheek pouches.

I like to store food, so remove any uneaten food each day.

My teeth grow all of the time so I need hard things to chew on - washed wood from fruit trees is great!

I am great at escaping, so make sure my cage is safe and secure!

I need exercise and entertainment, so make sure that I have playthings (but not too many!) and something to help me exercise, such as an exercise wheel with a solid tread.

I need fresh water, so check that my water bottle is at the correct height and has no leaks.

Check me over regularly and if you are worried about me, ask an adult to take me to the vet.
