PDSA vet Steve Leonard has been working with endangered orangutans in the jungles of Borneo for the BBC documentary Orangutan Diaries, with Michaela Strachan.
Animal Anticscaught up with Steve to hear all about his adventure!
Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Sanctuary, in Borneo, Indonesia, rescues endangered orangutans, cares for them and, whenever possible, releases them back into areas of the country where they will be safe.
Steve says: "Normally I'm there to tell a story, but this time I got my sleeves rolled up and felt I had an immediate effect on helping an endangered species."
Orangutans are endangered because the tropical rainforests they live in are being chopped down leaving them to starve and they become easy targets for poachers.
Baby orangutans are also taken from their mothers to be sold as pets.
The orphans that come into the sanctuary are ver scared and withdrawn, but within a few days they soon begin to grow in confidence.
Steve is more used to working with rabbits, cats and dogs, but he was told that orangutans are very much like big orange dogs - with hands!
